Advent Blog – Day 12

Dec 18, 2015 | Advent, Blog

The tree is done, now to make the rest of the house feel more Festive.

The Tree is not Enough

Our house is a narrow terrace house of 3 storeys. The kitchen and office are on the ground floor and the lounge is on the first floor. Making all the main rooms feel festive means decorating the kitchen and the staircase that links the floors.

Table decorations for the kitchen are not enough as the table will have to be the place where we eat many a meal before Christmas day. The solution is to put a mantel decoration above the hob and some pretty baubles in glass containers that can be moved on and off the table.

The Stairs are the Key

To add interest to the stairs I have a pine garland and battery powered lights. The new LED battery lights are brilliant for easily adding a touch of glamour.
Although it is usual to drape the garland along the top of the bannister I prefer to decorate the base so that the decoration doesn’t get in anyone’s way as they use the stairs and the bannister.

As I look at pinterest there are some lovely ideas for hanging baubles down the stairs. If I find time nearer Christmas to buy ribbon this might happen.

Even if you don’t have room for a tree, there are loads of ways of giving any home a bit of festive sparkle.
